Christopher R. May

Christopher Robert May – Rochester

We share with great sadness that Christopher “Chris” Robert May, 40, of Rochester, MN passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

Chris was born in Rochester on May 27, 1983 to Robert and Pamela (Paulios) May. He was the first and, as he liked to tell us, “favorite grandchild” in the May family. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 2002. After high school he enrolled in the carpentry program at Rochester Community College. He lived in Rochester all his life.

Chris was a talented carpenter and loved to share his knowledge. He spent time patiently showing his nephew how to work with tools. They had such fun together.

He was quick to lend a helping hand to a friend when they needed him. When Chris was feeling well, it was easy to see how wonderful he was. He had such a big heart and a great smile. He was a much-loved son, protective big brother, loving uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to so many who cared about him.

Chris will be most remembered for being an accomplished outdoorsman. There are not many people who loved fishing and hunting more than he did. Chris knew all the best fishing and hunting spots. The Paulios family cabin was one of his favorite places to be. He cooked and ate all the fish and game that he harvested.

Chris was great with kids.  He loved to help them learn about hunting, fishing, and carpentry. He helped his nephew catch his first fish and outfitted him with a fishing pole and the best stocked tackle box a four-year-old could ask for.

Chris is survived by his parents, his sister Amy (James) Teigland, nephew Arthur and niece Millicent, his dog Vapor, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jack and Mary May and Mike and Mary Paulios, his uncle Dan Paulios, and his dog Sierra.

Our hearts are forever broken. Chris had so much more living to do. He will be forever loved and forever missed.

Memorial donations can be made in his name through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at afsp.org or to the family for a memorial donation in his name to help kids learn to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors like he did.

If I remember anything about my years in high school with Chris, it would be his infectious smile, goofy and witty demeanor, and just general kindness. His smile made you smile. ❤️ Chris is greatly missed and I’m saddened I won’t have the chance to see him again and catch up like we did at our 20 year class reunion. Rest, dear friend.

I am so very sorry to learn of Chris's loss. I'll always remember playing together as children on 13th avenue. My sincere condolences. -- Megan Eagen-Jones

Had the pleasure of calling him a friend in highschool and after. "A gentleman and a scholar" he would like to say.

Always a great stand up guy.
