Carolyn F. Gernes

Carolyn F. Gernes – Rochester

Carolyn Gernes, 61, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Caledonia, MN unexpectedly passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 7th, 2024 at her daughter’s residence. Unfortunately, Carolyn spent the majority of the three months before her passing hospitalized for various serious medical conditions. She was making positive progress toward going home. Fortunately, the day before her passing was spent surrounded by her close family at her home spending quality time with each other over a family favorite meal.

Carolyn was born May 20th, 1963 in La Crosse, WI to Vernon and Donna Inglett. She married Gregory J. Gernes at Carolyn’s family farm in Caledonia, MN on May 27th, 1989. The couple lived in Rochester, MN, where she furthered her career as a hairstylist in Rochester which she continued for 40+ years.

Carolyn loved needlepoint, crocheting, coloring, and diamond dot art painting, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughter, Ellie Mae. Some of her greatest accomplishments were being a wonderful mom and then grandma, a hair stylist, and a breast cancer survivor.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory Gernes of Rochester, MN, two daughters, Janelle (Daniel) August of Byron, MN, and Adrianna Gernes (Joshua Cordell) of Rochester, MN, her granddaughter Ellie Mae August, her sisters, Cynthia (Jeff) Walker, June (Mark) Corpstein, and brother Wesley (Holly) Inglett.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Donna Inglett.

A Memorial Service for Carolyn F Gernes will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester with Pastors Jenny Cannon and Kirkland Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In honor of Carolyn, please wear purple as it was her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help the family cover medical expenses. To donate electronically please use: https://account.venmo.com/u/carolyn-gernes Other memorial gifts are welcome but are not necessary.

Jim and Jean

I will be praying for peace for you all in this truly heart wrenching time. I was honored to have had the opportunity to have spent time with Carolyn. I always treasured her positivity and joy. She always helped me remember the blessings all around me. I have no doubt that she will be a ray of sunshine shining down on us from above, because she was a ray of sunshine here on earth. She loved her girls so much. I can say that I never met any of her daughters, but felt like I knew them. She talked about you with such joy and love, always. I am very sorry for all of your pain. I hope that you know how much she loved you.

We are heart broken to have lost a valuable family member. She will always be  a heartbeat away. Carolyn was a treasure.  We only knew her a short while  , but the impact she had on our life will live forever.

Carolyn was a 1981 high school classmate of mine. We were also confirmed together at the Methodist church in Caledonia. We spent some time together at each others homes during school. I enjoyed visiting with her at the Houston Co fair every year when she came to play bingo with her parents. She was another one taken too soon! RIP my friend, Carolyn!
