Antoinette “Tonie” M. Hahn
Antoinette Marie Hahn, aka “Tonie,” passed away November 6, 2024, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Tonie was born June 13, 1931, to Nicholas Joseph and Marie Theresa Lupo in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Villa Angela Academy High School. Tonie graduated in 1952 from St. Louis University in St. Louis, earning a bachelor’s degree as a medical technician. There she met and fell in love with the love of her life; Dr. Richard Gillis Hahn, aka “Gil”. They were married in 1954, and moved to Rochester, MN in 1959, where they built an amazing life and raised eight children together.
As the mother of eight children and the lead “domestic engineer”, Tonie ran a tight ship. As her children grew and became more independent, she worked in real estate. She was also the principal financial advisor for her family and instilled that discipline in her children and grandchildren.
Tonie is preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Marie; brother, Richard “Dick”, as well as her loving husband Gil. She is survived by their eight children, Rebecca (David) Sprenger of Rochester, Minnesota, Martin (Connie) Hahn of Missoula, Montana, Lorraine (David) Rose of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Barbara (Paul Neseth) Hahn of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Carol (Kenneth) Iwinski of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Maureen (Michael) Grebin of Riverton, Utah, Stephan (Steven Boettcher) Hahn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Matthew (Krista) Hahn of San Diego, California; 23 grandchildren, Ryan (Justine), Karen (Joshua), Jillian (Colton), Camille (Benjamin), Andrew (Aniva), Alexander (Jenna), Madelaine (Daniel), Cameron (Alyssa), Philip, Evelyn (Eric), Joanna, Naomi, Siri, Paavo, Nolan (Klare), Kira, Aubrey (fiancé Caleb), Mia, Nicholas (Kathryn), Olivia (Jackson), Samuel, Avery and Vivian; and 32 great-grandchildren, Archer, Rowen, Kyah, Mari, Perez, Norah, Jocko, Presley, Lenyn, Gillie, Crosby, Charlie, Teddy, Westyn, Landrie, Byrdie, Dottie, William, Martin, Harrison, Ford, Cozette, Scarlett, Lane, Vincent, Genevieve, Abigail, Louisa, Viggo, Hugh, Lena, and Tripp. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dixie (Gaylord) Smith, Shirley Bray, and Pearl Jenkins.
Tonie was truly one-of-a-kind. A matriarch, who excelled as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, she had the unique ability to make every person feel special and heard. Her empathy was only matched by her pragmatic disposition and sage advice. She took great pride in her ever-growing family and loved them more than anything.
One of her true passions was being out on the water, hauling in the perpetual and ever elusive big fish. She enjoyed reading, investing, discussing matters of the day, and the occasional trip to the casino where she routinely won her nickel bets. Tonie was a person of deep faith and attended her 30th silent retreat at the Jesuit Retreat House in September shortly before she became ill. She was always up for a discussion of her Christian faith and the meaning of life. Tonie will be remembered as a fierce advocate for her family and a voice of reason and perspective in the storm.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to The Marist Brothers and the Jesuit Retreat House in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Rebecca & Hahn Family,
I’m so thankful I met Tonie when she came to the Jesuit Retreat House on Lake Winnebago. Her love of life and all of you came through loud and clear in those silent retreats next to a great fishing lake! May she feel the joy now with loved ones who have gone before and continue to watch over all of you.
With prayers, Chris.

Carol, although I never had the pleasure of meeting your mother, the obituary did a fantastic job of describing her and her love of family and faith. I extend my condolences for you and your family. BJ
My dear cousins,
Although your mother has left us, my love and admiration continues for her life well lived. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this time of sorrow but we will continue and make her proud. I regret that I will be unable to celebrate her life in person but please know that I am there in spirit.
Love to all,
Trey
Dear Hahn family - all the memories come rushing back. Our families shared some wonderful times at the Lupo house when you came back to Ohio for visits. Visiting you all at Lake City. Aunt Tonie and Uncle Gil's 50th Anniversary surprise party. We always felt the love and inclusion of our small family into your larger than life family. May all your wonderful memories keep her spirit alive within you.
We are praying for all of you. Letting go of someone so significant, even though you know she is with Jesus, is still so very difficult. I pray God’s peace and joy fill you as you share stories and memories in your time together over the holidays. Love to you all! Wes and Teresa Moore
