Yvonne Carol Long
The funeral For Yvonne Carol Long will be at 11:00am on Monday May 11, 2015 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Robert A. Kandels officiating. A private burial for Yvonne and her husband, Johnny will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Johnny passed away on December 13, 2014 and was cremated. The visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service on Monday.
Yvonne Long, 82, of Rochester, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital.
Yvonne Carol (Broadwater) Long was born April 7, 1933 to Eugene and Myra (Testroete) Broadwater at Preston. She grew up in the Greenleafton area where she attended country school thru 4th grade at Hazel Prairie. Then 8th grade at Biteman School near Spring Valley. Yvonne later graduated from Wykoff High School in 1951.
On June 12, 1951 she married Johnny Long in Spring Valley at Assembly of God Church.
In 1962, Yvonne worked at Hi-Way Café which she owned and operated thru 1966. She then worked at Red Owl Grocery until 1969 when she and her husband moved to Rochester where she began work at Mayo Clinic, retiring in September 1994 after 25 years of employment.
Yvonne was a longtime member of Homestead Methodist Church.
She enjoyed being with her family, getting together with friends and she and her husband spent 13 winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, visiting friends there. Yvonne enjoyed crafts; especially ceramics, hiking, her flowers, music and helping others. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
Yvonne is survived by a daughter, Pamela(David) Peterson of Chatfield; 2 granddaughters, Nikol (Scott) Mix of Farmington and Michelle (Tom) Root of Chatfield; great-grandchildren, Tommy, Aaron and Zach Mix; Paige and Layne Root of Chatfield; 2 brothers, Milo (Beth Ann) Broadwater of Preston, Neil (Joan) Broadwater of Winona; 3 nephews, David and Larry Broadwater of Preston, Jim Broadwater of Studio City, California and Sarah Broadwater of St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny on December 13, 2014 and her parents, Eugene and Myra Broadwater.
