Richard William Tarara

Richard William Tarara, age 91, died peacefully at Madonna Meadows in Rochester on November 21, 2012. Richard was born in St. Paul in 1921 and grew up in Rochester where he attended Junior College before he went on to graduate from Notre Dame. He served in the army at the Rock Island Arsenal during WWII, then went back for a second degree at Notre Dame. In 1947 he married Evelyn Judd in Rochester. They moved to St. Paul where Richard worked for 3M until his retirement in 1980. At that time he and Evelyn built an earth-sheltered home near Deerwood, MN. In 2002 they moved to Byron and in 2010 to Madonna Meadows in Rochester.

Richard loved to be outdoors, fishing, camping, or just puttering in his yard. Every summer he took the family “up north” or on extended trips to national parks. He loved to sing and was active in his parish churches, the Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club. In addition, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and telling stories. His children will remember him also for making ice skating rinks, fishing in his motorized canoe, driving his pontoon boat, and teaching them to play competitive croquet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Agnes Tarara and by his siblings, Paul, Edward, and Therese. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Rochester; his children Cindy Scudiero of Winona, Stephanie (Stephen) Willbanks of Strafford VT, and Dan (Kathleen) Tarara of Rochester; six grandchildren: Rebecca, Jennifer, Anthony, Allison, Simon, and Karen; and three great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Madonna Towers Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Madonna Towers Chapel.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Madonna Meadows Foundation.
