Richard E. Curtin

Richard Earnest Curtin, 92, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2017. He was born February 12,1925 to Annette Marie and Augustine Curtin in Austin Minn.

He was one of eleven children. Shortly thereafter, they moved to a farm in the Stewartville area which had no electricity. He attended a country school where he earned 50 cents a month for arriving at school early to start the wood burning stove for heat. After the eighth grade, he worked on the family farm. He also worked on various farms in the Stewartville area, sometimes earning a dollar a day, for 12 hours of work.

Richard once bought a car for $20.00 in 1943. In 1946, he met Evelyn Olson, at the Mayo Civic Outdoor Band shell. They were married on June 8,1947, and have been married 69 years.  He worked as a foreman for the Gamble Robinson Co. in Rochester for 42 years, until retiring in 1986. He enjoyed playing the harmonica for over 80 years.

Survivors include his wife; son, Dale (Leigh Ann) and their children, Chris, Trisha, Jeff, and Beth; daughter, Sylvia (Daryl) and their children, Lisa, and Julie; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Dale, my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your father. May the peace of God and many joyous memories be with you.

Dale, I am so very sorry to hear of your fathers passin. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

It was shocking to open my Rochester paper to find the notice of Buddy's death.  Of course, I knew he was over 90 as I am in my late 70's.  Wish I could have seen him one more time although driving is harder now.  I will always treasure the picture of him ridding a bike with me in the basket.  Sympathies to all.

Dale, Leigh Ann and family.  So sorry to hear of your father/grandfather death.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
