Richard “Dick” Satre

Dick Satre, 74, of Rochester, MN died of natural causes on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his residence. Dick was born on September 22, 1942 in Rochester to Orvis and Nina Satre of LeRoy, MN. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1960. After attending college he enlisted in the US Army Reserve, serving 5 years as a Military Police Officer in Rochester. In 1964, Dick married Jane Nelson in Clarks Grove, MN (they divorced in 2015). The couple lived in Rochester where Dick worked for over 40 years as a carpet installer. Dick was known for detailed work and precision installation.

Survivors include his son Jeff (Becky) Satre of Rochester; daughter Susan (Marty) Michael of Shakopee, MN, five grandchildren, Nolan, Ben, and Addie Satre, and Ella and Henry Michael; and his brother Paul (Cindy) Satre of Rochester.

Dick loved the outdoors, especially boating and fishing. He had a passion for hunting and enjoyed outside projects, in particular cutting down trees, preparing firewood, and weed whacking. When he wasn’t working hard, one of his favorite pastimes was watching a Twins, Vikings or Gophers game.

In 1977, a cabin on Echo Lake in Wisconsin was purchased. There was no doubt this little piece of heaven was Dick’s “happy place.” Lifelong friendships were formed, and he shared countless hours of enjoyment there. It wasn’t just a weekend getaway, it was his home.

Dick loved his family immensely. He found great pleasure in attending band concerts, sporting events, and activities to watch his children and grandchildren perform. Dick enjoyed socializing, especially when it revolved around good food, drink, and laughter. He will be missed.

The funeral service for Richard will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00AM. with Pastor Anjanette Bandel officiating.  The visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Rochester American Legion, Wm. T. McCoy Post 92. Dick was a huge supporter of Veterans, youth baseball, and America.

Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Condolences

The family of Richard “Dick” Satre has received the following condolences.

Dick,

I drove by Echo Lake yesterday on the way to Hayward. As I drove by your " Happy Place" on the way to my "Happy Place" I had that terrible feeling that life is just not fair. I was thinking back to all the years that we had our monthly visits in the barber shop and discussed all those larger than life topics that in the long run now seem fairly trivial. We would discuss how two Norwegian lads ended up marrying two Danish princesses and how the Viking draft wasn't going to do anybody any good and how there wasn't anyway that he would be able to carpet the area I wanted done and how the last time I cut your hair it looked like a goat chewed on it. There were great times of rumors and innuendos and just plain baloney. But now I know that Valhalla waits for you as it does for special Norwegians that have enriched the lives of family and friends. So from one Norwegian to another I say "Skol" I will miss you my friend.

We always enjoyed working around Dick on jobs and just seeing him in the mornings loading and preparing for the days work.  He was quick with a smile and a joke.   A special and caring friend.  He will be missed by us and his many friends. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

Jeff, Marty and the families - we are so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Hopefully there is some comfort knowing he is at peace now in the heavens. It's time to cherish all the great memories you all have spending time up at Echo, and really appreciate your dad's vision to buy a cabin so you have a place to gather and spend time together. We'll be thinking and praying for you guys!

Dave

Deepest sympathy.   Dick always had a boyish smile which led one to wonder what he was up to but it really was just a friendly greeting.   I am sorry to say I will not be in the area to show my respects this week but my heart goes out to the family.   He will be missed by all.   God Bless.

My sincere condolences to Jeff, Susan and your families.  My memories of Dick are many over so many years.  Our families  boating, camping, sharing holidays and special occasions together.  Being friends in the early married years and then through the years of raising our families and having fun together.  That friendship continued.  I smile at many thoughts of Dick and his mannerisms.  I am sad at the passing of a good friend.

With love,

Sharon Tennis

My condolences to your family at this sad time. I remember Dick as a fun loving, very social fellow up at Turtle Lake.  He will be missed by many.

So sorry for your loss.  We send our sympathy.  Rick will be missed at our class reunions.

You will be missed, but know you and Roger are laying carpet for the Big Guy.

Our hearts are sad and heavy with your passing, Dick......   we will always remember the best of times in our 50+ years of friendship, from our young married life to  the visits with you at your cabin and in Rochester.   We loved you and send our condolences to all you family and friends.  Rest in peace...
