Norman Ray Huse

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, aka “Pops” Norman Ray Huse, 85 formerly of Indianola, Iowa passed away peacefully on May 22, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester, MN. Norman was surrounded by those who love him. Norman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Deloris Jacobson Huse; children, Carla (Terry) Nelson, Kevin (Becky) Huse, Bryan Huse; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua and Jonathan Nelson, Adam (Stacy) Huse, Sarah Huse, David Huse; great-grandchildren, Kameron and Parker Huse; brother, Arlo Max Huse; sister-in law, Dorothy (Carl) Huse; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eva Meyers Huse; sister, Wilma Huse; brother, Carl Jr. Huse; and sister-in-law, Alice (Arlo) Huse.
Born in Colo, Iowa June 16, 1931, Mr. Huse attended rural schools and graduated salutatorian from Colo High School where he played varsity football and was an All-State Tenor. He attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Alpha Chi Sigma fraternities. He also ran for student body president with the campaign slogan, “Light the Fuse with Huse.” On graduation night in 1953, he was introduced to fellow graduate Deloris Jacobson. Both had accepted teaching positions in Stratford, Ia. The romance began with a date to a PTA meeting that fall. The couple married on January 16, 1954 and moved to Forest City in 1958 where Norman was the high school principal for eight years. During this time, he and Deloris spent summers in Greeley, Colorado where he earned his Master in Education degree. In 1966, Norman became the Indianola High School Principal until 1982 when he stepped down from administration duties and taught economics until 1990. Norman and Deloris wintered in Pharr, Texas for 17 years.
Norman enjoyed farming, woodworking, camping, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. Many summers were spent at Table Rock Lake boating and water skiing with extended family. Later, Norman and Deloris were chaperons with American Youth in Concert, traveling Europe for several summers. Norman was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage and loved playing his accordion. Norman was dependable, generous, and a loyal friend. The greatest joy in life was his marriage to Deloris and their three children. Norman was most proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. He nurtured their interests and took pride in their accomplishments. His most favorite moments were spent with family.
Norman was a long-time member of the Indianola Regular Baptist Church, where he was a choir member and at his church in Pharr Texas. He was a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Norman stated that he knew his Savior and was ready to meet his Maker many years before Alzheimer’s robbed him of his memories and ability to speak.
A Celebration of Life Funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on June 9, 2017 at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church, 1209 E. 2nd Ave, Indianola, IA. Lunch will immediately follow. Visitation Thursday evening, June 8th from 5-7 PM at Peterson Funeral Home, 602 E. Salem Ave., Indianola, IA.
