Norman R. Stensrud

Norman R. Stensrud, age 88, of Rochester passed away at his residence on September 28, 2016.

Norman is a direct descendant (grandson) of Halvor and Randine (Ivarslien) Stensrud who lived in Minnesota when it became a state on May 11, 1858.  Norman was born on December 9, 1927 in Marion Township to Mikkel and Inga Westrum Stensrud.  He was the youngest of 13 children.  He moved to Rochester at the age of 6.  Norman was baptized and confirmed at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Norman married Orphie Harwick on January 19, 1945.  He worked as a salesman for Marigold Dairies which is now Kemps for 41 years before he retired.  He enjoyed woodworking and the family appreciated the gifts of his woodworking treasures.

Norman is survived by his wife, Orphie, of 71 years; his four children; Cheryl (Roger) Aarness of Port Orchard, WA; Randall (Mary Smith) Stensrud of Rockville, MN; Greg (Mary MCCarthy) Stensrud of Belfair, WA; Jane (Mike) Trieschman of Mankato, MN; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mikkel and Inga; brothers Halvor, Lawrence, Henning, Thomas, Sanford, Milo, Palmer and Elvin; sisters Randy Mae, Ella, Selma and Marie; son-in-law Roger.

The memorial service for Norman will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Pastor Vern Christopherson officiating.  Norman’s ashes will be privately interred at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester (Reste Hyeme.)  Relatives and friends are invited one hour prior to the service for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Hospice or Zumbro Lutheran Church of Rochester.

A special thank you goes to all the healthcare professionals including the doctors, nurses and volunteers of Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Hospice.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com

Condolences

The family of Norman R. Stensrud has received the following condolences.

I'm Normans great grand daughter, and even though I might not have known him all so well, I'm glad that I got the chance to meet him when I was younger. My whole family sends their condolences and we hope that in this time of grief were also thinking of his wife Orphie and his children. Our hearts go out to everyone who was close to Norman and I know he's in a better place now.
