Margaret G. Hill

Margaret G (Peggy) Hill, (01/03/25 – 03/09/14) left us to be in heaven with her beloved husband, Bob, her parents Luke and Margaret, her sister Patricia and her brother Bill.  Including many cousins, Peggy is survived by 10 nieces and nephews.

A longtime Manhattan resident, Peggy was the first woman to be promoted to VP in NY Bell Telephone.  She spent the latter part of her career successfully negotiating labor agreements with the labor unions.  Peggy and Bob traveled the world extensively during their vacations, and always sent postcards from exotic locales.  They moved to Rochester, MN so that Bob could get the benefit of Mayo Clinic medical care.  After Bob left us in 1998, Peggy stayed in Rochester for the remainder of her years, active in Catholic based services.  Despite her many accomplishments, Peggy remained modest.  Peggy’s love of family was a constant.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John The Evangelist Church in Rochester, MN, at 9:00AM Saturday, 04/26/14.  On Friday, 04/25/14, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, family members will receive friends at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St SE, Rochester, MN 55904.

Condolences

The family of Margaret G. Hill has received the following condolences.

I worked for Peg Hill during the 1970's as her Secretary.  She was truly a lovely lady and I learned much from her.  I helped her set up the Labor Relations meetings, etc. and even went shopping for her in Lord and Taylor when she was decorating her new office!  When I left in 1976 to have a baby, she and I kept in contact every Christmas to check in on things.  I also remember her wonderful trips, one especially to Africa where she said she was sleeping in a tent, but with a whole bed and furniture in it!  She was a very nice person to work for.

As a young financial department manager at NY Telephone in the early 1970s I worked closely with Peg on the cost of prospective labor contracts. Peg was always a great pleasure to work with: knowledgeable, patient and open. Her example made a large impression on me. She maintained contact with the retired NY Telephone senior executive group throughout her time in Rochester, even though she was unable to attend our annual dinners. My condolences to her family and friends.
