Louis L. Wagner

On Wednesday February 08, 2017,  Louis Leroy Wagner, age 87, passed away at his home.

Louis was born December 30, 1929 in Hollendale, MN to Louis and Sophia Wagner.  He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1950.  Louis enlisted in the Army after high school and served in the 11th Airborne Division from 1951 to 1953. He took great pride in his military service. After his honorable discharge from the service he married his wife, Ila Mussman, on June 25, 1954 and they raised 5 children. Louis worked for Northwestern Bell-AT&T for many years – mostly as a lineman – until he retired in 1983. He then worked for the City of Rochester where he enjoyed working on various outside projects, including mowing at some of the city golf courses.

‘Louie’ – as he was known by family and friends – was a strong, independent, and devoted man who loved his family and friends dearly. He enjoyed showing Arabian horses, working on vintage cars, and maintaining the hobby farm where his family lived. He also enjoyed hunting and trapping – especially deer hunting and pheasant hunting – with his sons.

Louis is survived by his wife, Ila Wagner of Rochester, MN; and three sons, Steven (Jean) Wagner of Pine Island, MN., Jeffrey Wagner of Rochester, MN., and Todd (Doreen) Wagner of Pine Island, MN. He is also survived by three grandsons; Cameron Wagner of Austin, Texas (son of deceased son Scott Wagner); and Chad Wagner and Lucas Wagner of Fort Collins, Colorado (twin sons of son Jeffrey Wagner).

Louis is preceded in death by his parents; Louis and Sophia Wagner, and siblings; Wilbert Wagner, Elda (Sadie) Beighley, Lorine Christensen, and Burdell Schmidt as well as his son Scott Leroy Wagner who passed away suddenly on January 22, 1995 and his daughter Debra Lu Wagner who passed away recently on October 10, 2016.

The funeral service for Louis L. Wagner will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN with Pastor Nathaniel Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Louis L. Wagner has received the following condolences.

My sympathies to Louie's family. I've known Louie since I was about 7 or 8 years old. We lived at 512-3rd Ave. S. E. and Louie lived on 5th Street just west of 3rd Ave. For the past several years I would run into him at the Mayo Clinic when we were both having our annual physicals. I always enjoyed visiting with him. I was surprised to learn that he served in the 11th Airborne Division in the  early 50's. I also served in the 11th Airborne Division in Japan in 1947. God Bless his family.

Steve;

   Sorry to hear of your father's passing.  I hope you have wonderful memories.

Scott

Our prayers go out to the Wagner family on the loss of such a "good man".  We always enjoyed our visits with Louis and Ila.  Louis may be gone from this life, but he will never be forgotten.  We love Ila.

Very sad to hear of Louie's passing.  We worked together for quite a few years at Park and Rec.  He was truly a really good guy and I enjoyed his friendship very much.  My sympathy and condolences to the entire family.  RB
