Lewis M. Schoppers

The funeral service for Lewis (Lewy) M. Schoppers will be at 11:00am on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday October 22nd and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home.

Lewis (Lewy) M. Schoppers, 68, surrounded by his loving family, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in Sumner Township on July 24, 1946.  Lewy was raised in Spring Valley, Minnesota by his parents, the late Herman and Hazel Schoppers.  On September 2, 1967, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Braun, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester, where they made their home.

Lewy worked in Auto Industry for 40 years including the management of Jiffy Lube for 18 years.  He leaves behind his wife, Kathy of 47 years, and three children, Michele (Larry) Lawler, Jeff (Lynn) Schoppers, and Todd Schoppers, all of Rochester.  Lewy was blessed with five grandchildren, Samantha, Jadyn, Jagger, Morgan, and Dane Schoppers.

Lewy was a great family man who enjoyed fishing, gardening, grilling and of course, the Vikings.  He was a very involved father and grandfather.  Lewy was known as the “Bassmaster” by his grandchildren, and the “Grillmaster” by his children.

Condolences

The family of Lewis M. Schoppers has received the following condolences.

Time has passed, but the pain of your loss has not.  Our deepest sympathies from us (Glen farms the family farm near Washington).

I will always remember Lewy's kindness to me whenever I would stop for an oil change.  One time, I noticed that the guys were all surrounding the front of my car with the hood up.  When I inquired what was up (as in why aren't you changing my oil?), Lewy informed me that they weren't sure what to do...what??.....he told me there was NO oil in my car!!!  He told the guys to fill the car with oil and sent me on to Clements, as it was a fairly new Subaru.  Of course they blamed Jiffy Lube, but it turned out that my engine seal had failed.  Lewy could have told me to call a wrecker, but he took care of my car in a Christian, giving way.

God bless him and all of you with your memories of him.  May those memories give you strength.

Glen & Jean McNamara, Spring Valley

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to you. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are never alone. Turn to the Holy Scriptures for guidance and to help soothe your heart. Psalms 34:18 assures us that God is near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I am in such shock...I can only guess at your own.  Please accept my love and thoughts and prayers.  I pray you will be flooded with wonderful, wonderful memories of all the wonderful times...and that they will bring you bits of comfort every day.  He will be so incredibly missed!!!!

Here is the impromptu tribute I just wrote on my Facebook page:

"In loving memory of Lewy Schoeppers, one of the jolliest men and kindest neighbors I've ever known. He and his wife Kathy were so welcoming to me when I moved here to the "retirement village" nearly 2 years ago.

Please be in prayer for his dear wife Kathy, his two sons and his daughter, and his 5 grandkids as they experience these early days of terrible grief. Ah Lord...life is so very hard. Hold them, Jesus."

We are so sorry to hear of Lewy's passing.  He was such a good man.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.  Dave and Paulette Schwartz

Though I have not seen you all for years I have many great childhood memories of times together.  I am so sorry for your loss.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I remember it all Dad. You loved me when I didn't deserve it and you brought me up when I was down. You were the greatest father anyone could ask for. I miss you and I will keep you in my heart always. Love you Dad.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  A wonderful man will be deeply missed.

Hi dad. I miss you more than anything. You were taken away way to soon. I believe with all my heart that you are in heaven watching over us but i would much rather have you here. I love you so much.
