Jonathan R. Hoopman

Jonathan Richard Hoopman was born January 7th, 1974 to Richard and Dorothy Hoopman in Rochester, Minnesota where he lived all his life. He died December 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was 40 years old. The warrior put up a courageous battle against cancer for 1 1/2 years and is now free from pain.

He graduated from Mayo High School. He worked for the Steel Workers Union at Rock Tenn and also at Goonie’s Comedy Club both in Rochester.

He is survived by his brother Michael Hoopman from Green Bay, Wisconsin, his mother Dorothy Hoopman-Lentz and her fiancee Darold Sharar both of Rochester. He married Melissa Mathison in May of 2004 and later divorced. He is survived by two wonderful sons Andrew Jon 13 years old and Evan Richard 9 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard and grandfathers Melvin Hoopman and Alex Witkus.

He loved his family and was especially close to his only brother Mike. He enjoyed his mom’s cooking and baking. He loved spending time with his sons doing what they liked including swimming at the beach, hiking at Quarry Hill, reading, taking them to the movies, playing video games or even watching cartoons on TV.

He had many great friends. He enjoyed playing poker, his fantasy football and baseball leagues and many outdoor sport activities including swimming, biking, softball, kickball, volleyball, golf and many more. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports on TV especially football. He had played youth hockey for 6 years and enjoyed going to all professional sporting events especially going to the Wild Hockey games. He was able to go to 2 games in November.

The visitation is Sunday December 21st from 2-8 pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester. The funeral Mass to celebrate his life is Monday December 22nd at 11:00 am with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rochester with the Rev. Dorothy and family:  I'm so saddened to hear of Jon's passing.  Praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Our hearts are with his family whom held Jon closest to their hearts.  I'm so sorry for all of you at such a difficult time of yr too......and for you...Melissa. I can't imagine the strength it will take to wipe away tears from those sweet boys who just loved their daddy so much.  But I know you are strong..and such a loving, nurturing mother.... I hope someday all of you will find comfort in the memories you were able to create with him- such a funny, good natured soul. I know the essence of him will live on thru his boys' laughter, their sincerity and love for nature....Jon will shine right thru their beautiful little spirits. Many blessings to the Jon Hoopman family.

I got to know John and his brother Mike While working at the sub base. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

My condolences to Jon's family, you will be in thought and prayer.  He was a good man with a great sense of humor.  My favorite lasting memory was about 2 years ago just prior to his diagnosis.  He was at my house playing poker and laughing up a storm, having a good time.   I'm grateful for knowing him.

My condolences to Jon's family and friends. You are in my thoughts.
