John Edward Steck

John Edward Steck of Rochester passed away quietly at Seasons Hospice on 05/14/2015, he was 84 years old.

John was born in Rochester MN and lived here his entire life. John is survived by his lovely wife of 60 years, Marietta Steck, and 4 children, son Daniel of Las Vegas,NV, daughter Mary Yarger (Larry) of Excelsior, MN, daughter Deb Nelson (Gene) of Rochester and son Doug (Julia) of Crosslake, MN. He had 6 Grandchildren Jerad (Amy) Olofson, Justin Steck, Jamie and Adam Yarger, Alisha and Alex Nelson and 3 Great Grandchildren Amaya, Aidan and Aubrey.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Frieda Steck, Father, George Steck and sister Marita Miller. He is survived by his sister Helen Nelson (John) of Hoyt Lakes, MN and brother William Steck of Oklahoma City, OK and brother in law Harvey Q Miller of Rochester. He is also survived by many close Family members including In-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

John graduated from Rochester High School in 1950 and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was married to Marietta on May 14, 1955. He worked at the Rochester Post Bulletin in the press room and also enjoyed selling Toyota cars on the side. John loved to spend time at “The Lake” property on Lake Zumbro and enjoyed “off-roading” in his Landcruiser and letting the kids ride along! He enjoyed his short junkets to Las Vegas and locally to Treasure Island and Mystic Lake. He was an outstanding Father and Grandfather having spent a great deal of time with his children and grandchildren and taking many a 2 week Family vacation trip each summer.

The funeral service will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Tuesday May 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service starting at 10:00 AM. John will be buried at a later date at the VA Cemetery in Preston, MN.

In lieu of Flowers the family would like donations to go to the Poverello Foundation | Mayo Clinic that helps families in Financial need – or to the charity of your choice.

The Family wishes to Thank all the Family, Friends and Neighbors who have offered their support during this time. Thank you to the Mayo Clinic and St Mary’s Hospital staff for all their great care and Thank you to the team at Season’s Hospice for their end of life care and the very peaceful place for John to be when he could no longer be at home.
