Gordon K. “Gordy” Gobin

The visitation for Gordon K. “Gordy” Gobin will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm Monday, May 1, 2017 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service for family at 3:30pm.

Mr. Gobin, age 75 of Rochester, died Thursday, April 27 at his home in Rochester. Gordon was born April 15, 1942 to Murl and Ella (Linderbaum) Gobin in Cresco, Iowa. He graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1960. Later he joined the US Army. August 1, 1964, Gordon married Ruth Finkelson in Austin, MN. Gordon worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Jim (Mary) Gobin of Rose Creek, MN; daughter, Carol Hanson of Rochester; five grandchildren, Ray (Chelsey) Hanson, Melissa (Chris) Browning, Amanda Gobin, Samantha (Casey) Davis, and Annie Gobin; three great-grandchildren, Hadlei and Harper Hanson, and Greyson Davis; two brothers, Duane (Alberta) Gobin of Rochester, Ronnie (Linda) Gobin of Wanamingo; and two sisters, Joanne (Stan) Larson of Chester, Iowa and Shirley Wright of Shell Rock, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jeff Hanson; sister, Marlys Matt; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Matt and Tom Wright.

Gordon was an avid fisherman and hunter; he loved time with his family, especially his grandchildren; and enjoyed working in his yard and gardening. He also loved John Wayne and science fiction movies. He was everybody’s fix-it man!

I am sorry hear about the passing Gordon.  I remember him always out mowing the lawn, making something in the garage, and tending flowers. He loved to be outdoors.
