Francis G. Wheelock Sr.

Francis G. Wheelock Sr.  of Rochester passed away on January 22, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester following a short illness.

Francis was born February 18, 1919 in St. Peter, Minnesota.   He married Mary Brinson on January 15, 1941 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rochester.  She died on December 21, 1987.  He then married LaVone (Fiegel) Stutz on February 19, 1994 in Rochester, MN.

Fran was in the National Guard and drafted into the Army during World War II where he witnessed the Battle of the Bulge and was part of the initial U.S. Troops that helped liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp near Munich Germany.  On Christmas Eve 1945, Fran returned to Rochester where he resumed his career of 46 years as a Mayo Clinic x-ray Technician and supervisor.  He and his spouse raised five children in Rochester.   Mr. Wheelock was a partner of the Vet’s Cab Company during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.   He was a member of the American Legion and part of the WWII Roundtable. Fran’s favorite hobby was horses.  He also loved his rose garden and taking his dog on golf cart rides.

Francis’s patriotism, his duty and honor to serve the U.S. was matched by his common values of spiritual faith, love of family, patient care, courage, service, economy, and  respectability for oneself.

Francis is survived by his wife, one daughter; Mary Ann Bown of Arden Hills, MN; three sons, Francis Jr. (Nancy) Wheelock of Rochester, Laurence Wheelock of Brooklyn Park, MN and John (Pam) Wheelock of Douglas, MN; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Margaret Phillips of Arizona.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, one son, two brothers and one great-granddaughter.

The Funeral Mass for Francis will be on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00PM in the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home.  Visitation will be two hours prior the service at the River Park Chapel with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Condolences

The family of Francis G. Wheelock Sr. has received the following condolences.

Our sincere sympathies to the family of Mr. Wheelock, Sr.  We will keep him and his family in our prayers.

Bob and Lori

Peter and I want to extend our deepest heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your husband and father.  My dad, John Clark, loved "Wheelock" as he always called him! I still can remember the hours they spent on the porch, telling each other the same wonderful stories over and over.  When you have lived as long as they had, I am sure there was some "interesting" reminiscing!

It was not quite a year ago that Frannie and Bonnie so kindly attended our father's funeral. I still feel the deep pain of saying good-bye to my daddy.  It is never easy, even if they have lived a long life.

We will not be able to attend the funeral, as we live in Duluth, but I have asked my mother, Sally, to give Bonnie a big hug from us.

God's blessings and peace as you go through this sad time...

Sincerely,

Peter and Ginny Campbell

So sorry to read of Fran's passing.  I'll miss talking with him &always remember the good times we had in the x-Ray department.   He was a very good friend.  May the memories you have comfort the family.

Fran will be missed. I'm glad that we had the chance to visit with him and Bonnie on January 4...for lunch AND dinner. As always, he made us laugh and we enjoyed his stories. He was a true friend to dad, very faithful to God and Country and we will forever be blessed to have experienced his genuine love and friendship. Hugs to all of you, Jeanie and Chris Murray and Joe Hanzal

Larry,

Very sorry to see that you have lost your father.  It's been a while since I last saw you and unfortunately I'll be out of town this weekeend.  Thinking of you and your family today and may your dad rest in peace.  See you at the next reunion...Mike

Our deepest sympathy to the Wheelock family in your loss of your father, brother. Fran was a very honest and caring friend of our family and co-worker for many years. He will be missed by all. May He Rest In Pease and god be with the family in this time of loss.

The Brakke's and the Hudson's

My thoughts and prayers are with the Wheelock family.  Mr. Wheelock you are finially with Jim.  What a reunion that must of been.  It warms my heart to know that you are together again.  I remember when I stopped over to your house to bring the items that Jim had put in our LHS time capsule.  Your eyes filled with tears when you talked about Jim.  I know how much you missed him.
