Francis C. Mulvihill

Francis Cecil Mulvihill, 83, of Rochester, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, April 20 at the Haven of Cottagewood.

Fran was born in Kasson, MN on June 18, 1933, and was the seventh of eleven children born to Cecil and Myrtle (Tvedt) Mulvihill. Fran married Darlene Rose Meyers on January 28, 1961.

Fran’s early years on the farm shaped his strong work ethic, love for the outdoors and family. He served in the Army during the Korean War, was discharged from service in 1957, and worked at IBM for 35 years. His skills transferred over to his personal life where he was known for his ability of fixing anything, inventing, and creatively solving problems. Fran retired from IBM and drove a school bus. He enjoyed interacting with the school age kids. Fran was known for his story telling, quick wit, and humor. Fran loved to fish, hunt, camp, and snowmobile with family and friends. He especially loved holidays, family picnics, and traditions. In retirement, he traveled to various destinations with his wife. Fran was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Club.

Fran is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; three children, Diana (Jimmy) Hooten, Patricia Maddox, former son-in-law Eric Maddox, Karen (Brent) Turner, daughter-in-law Karen Mulvihill; and nine grandchildren, Trinity Hooten, Aminah Maddox, Aliyah Maddox, Croix Turner, Dalton Tuner, Cavan Mulvihill, Aaron Mulvihill, Catherine Mulvihill, and Ivalene Mulvihill. Fran is survived by his sisters, Eileen Kubista, Mary Kester, Joan (Norm) Hoeft; brother, Carl (Alice) Mulvihill; sister-in-law, Margaret Mulvihill; and brother-in-law, Don Lyman. Fran is preceded in death by his beloved son, Christopher Mulvihill; his parents; his sisters, Jean, Kate, and Doris; his brothers, James, Gerald, and David; and his brothers-in-law, Minor Buckingham, Charles Kubista, Gene Schuchard, and Harvey Kester.

A funeral mass for Fran will be held at 11am, Monday, April 24th at the Church of the Resurrection, 1600 11th Ave S.E., Rochester with Rev. Donald J. Schmitz officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23rd from 3pm-5pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Military Honors will be provided by Stewartville American Legion Post #164.

A heartfelt thank you to the care teams at the Haven of Cottagewood, Seasons Hospice, Madonna Meadows and Visiting Angels. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice of Rochester.
