Evelyn Jean Strain

Evelyn Jean Strain, 85, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at St. Marys Hospital on July 2, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Evie was born January 3, 1932 to Frank and Viota Bacon in Spring Valley, MN. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1950. Evie was united in marriage on June 5, 1955 to James (Jim) Strain at the Congregational Church in Rochester. Her husband passed away in 1984.

Evie enjoyed spending time with her family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to knit and made many baby caps for Methodist Hospital over the years. She enjoyed ceramics, reading and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

She was employed with the Rochester School District and Vocational Technical College for over 26 years. She was a long time member of Congregational Church.

Evie is survived by her son, David (Vicki) Strain; granddaughter, Kelly (Dane) Ahlstrom; grandson, Jim (Shelby) Strain all of Rochester; four great-grandsons, Brady and Cody Ahlstrom, and Kyson and Bowen Strain. She is also survived by her niece, Dorothy (Don) VanTries of Spring Valley, MN; nephew, Rod (Nancy) Bacon of Barnett, MO; and many other nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 15 brothers and sisters.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, July 14 at Congregational Church, 974 Skyline Dr SW Rochester. A gathering for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville, MN.
