Evelyn “Evie” Bowron

Evelyn Mae Bowron, age 84, passed peacefully to our Lord at her home on August 8th, 2017 with her family by her side.

Evelyn Mae Cole was born on August 1, 1933 in Atlanta, GA to Kaiser and Maebelle Cole. She was raised in Georgia. Evie graduated from LaGrange High School and entered the US Air Force on July 22, 1952 and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. There she met and married the love of her life, James “Jim” Bowron on March 31, 1954. She was honorably discharged on July 22, 1954. In November of 1954, the couple returned to Rochester: Jim’s hometown. Evie completed an Associate’s Degree in business and later completed her Nursing LPN degree locally.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of 63 years; her daughter, Paula (Kent) Goschke of Edgewood, KY; her sons, Dennis (Claire) Bowron of Rye, NY, Steven (Jody) Bowron of Albert Lea, MN, Brian (Paula) Bowron of Lexington, KY; daughter, Vickie (Dennis) Jarosz of Peachtree City, GA, Geri (Jeff Crawford) Shaffer of Charleston, SC; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Glenn Cole; a sister, Mary Lee Stitcher; as well as son-in-law, Danny Shaffer; and grandbabies, Kyle, Victor and Baby Schmidt.

Evie was a lifelong loving partner to Jim, through the good times and difficult times, a caring, compassionate, and wise mother to her children. She loved her grandchildren deeply. She loved ballroom dancing, knitting, painting, riding, traveling, and had a lifelong passion for learning and reading. She was proud to have been a published writer. Evie loved her country and was very proud to have served during the Korean War. She was a compassionate, loving nurse to her patients at Olmsted Community Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, where she retired from.

The Funeral Service for Evie will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11:00AM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home along with one hour prior to the service on Monday. Julie and John

Steve,

My sympathies be with you. May the peace that passes all understanding be with you all.

God bless,

Craig A. Nelson

During the early part of my career at Mayo I had the pleasure of working with Evie.  She was the ultimate nurse in the ENT department.  Patients were always at ease with her.  Her ability to evaluate and respond to the needs of the situation were never lacking.  Her work ethic was outstanding.  In addition she was fun to be around.  I am saddened that she has left us, but feel honored to have known and worked with her.

Hello Steve,

Steve,

I will hold you and your family up in prayer.  Praying for strength and peace through this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss.  My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

Geri,

What a beautiful tribute to your Mom!  She was a wonderful person who loved you very much!  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this hard time.  Losing a loved one is never easy, but take comfort knowing that she is home with Jesus now and watching over you all. Take this time to cry together, but also laugh together and remember all of the wonderful memories that you all share of your Mom.   I'll bet she's already organizing all of the books in heaven and creating her library there :)

Love you!!

Cheri

Rest In Peace Sweet Lady, wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Go where there is no pain.

you are missed by many
