Gene died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at home surrounded by family. Gene was born in Haverhill Township on December 3, 1930 to Frank and Mayme Cassidy. He graduated from Lourdes High School in 1948 and was a farmer his entire life. He served as a sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Joanne Cassidy, on June 6, 1959 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, MN.

Gene was actively involved with the Olmsted County Dairy Association, 4H, and Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family, traveling to casinos, and seeing the guys for coffee at Grandma’s Kitchen and Brothers. He was incredibly generous, kind, and humble and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Mason, and his son Tim Cassidy, as well as his six grandchildren, Jesse (Jada) Mason, Megan (Adam) Girtman, Emily Mason, Janna Mason, Jacob Mason, and Baily Mason, and five great-grandchildren, Maddy, Noah, Aida, Lennon, and Palmer.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Cassidy, his parents, Frank and Mayme Cassidy, and his sisters Evelyn Kearney and Dorothy Fogarty.

His family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Transitional Care, especially Ashley, and the Mayo Clinic Hospice team, especially Sherry, Joan, and Theresa for their outstanding care and support at this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to either St. Francis of Assisi Parish or Mayo Hospice.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.

Our condolences for your loss.

It was many years ago but I still remember visiting the farm and hunting squirrels in those woods.  Gene always had a smile for us and we will miss him.

To the family of Eugene Cassidy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.  I enjoyed seeing Gene each Monday morning.  He was always so upbeat and pleasant.  I saw how attentive and caring you, as his family, were to him and how much he enjoyed going out for breakfast with the guys.  May you be comforted by all the wonderful memories you will have of him.

May God bless you all.  Betty

Tim and Kelly-

So sorry for your loss.  I'll never forget your Dad's laugh and genuine character.  Glad I was able to talk with him while visiting a family member at Samaritan Bethany.  He still remembered me!

I think of you all often.  God bless and take care.

My prayers are sent to all.  I grew up going to his Mom and Dads house.  Was also at his wedding.  My love to his family, I loved him like a brother.

Kelly & family

So sorry to hear about your dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
