Derek Ryan Donald Lucas

Derek Ryan Donald Lucas was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle. He was born April 6, 1995 in Rochester, MN where he spent his entire life. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church, and was a graduate of Mayo High School. Derek was known for having an incredibly positive outlook on life, and was excited to soon be pursuing his dream of joining the Marine Corps. He was taken from this life far too soon in a motor vehicle accident on January 30, 2016.

Derek is survived by his father David Lucas, mother Lynn Lucas, brother Austin Lucas (all of Rochester), and sister Kristy (Luke) Christenson of Prior Lake, MN along with his nieces and nephew (Isabel, Josiah, and Jenica Christenson). He is also survived by aunts Deidra (Dave) Henslin of Rochester, Diana (Dana) Erickson of St. Anthony, MN, Tina Kuhlmann of Rochester, uncle August (Henriett) Varwig of Robbinsdale, MN, and grandmother Gloria (Rick) Amundrud of Fairdale, ND. His many surviving cousins are: Lucas Kuhlmann (Winona, MN), Andrew Kuhlmann (Rochester), Lauren Kuhlmann (Rochester), August Ruether (Blaine, MN), Michelle Henslin (along with daughter Braelynn) of Rochester, Kevin Henslin (Rochester), Brian Erickson (Maplewood, MN), Kyle Erickson (Atlanta, GA), and Kimberly (Dean) Johnson (along with children Claire and Allison) of Circle Pines, MN.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Donald and LaDon Lucas, maternal grandfather August Varwig Sr., uncle David Kuhlmann, cousin Michael Henslin, and niece Abigaile Christenson.

Derek will be remembered and missed by his many family and friends until we meet him again in heaven.

A prayer service will be held at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home at 4:00pm on Friday, February 12th, 2016 with a visitation to follow until 8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family or to the Go Fund Me account https://www.gofundme.com/u5meazyk to help with funeral expenses and medical expenses for his father David who was also involved in the accident and has extensive injuries.

Condolences

The family of Derek Ryan Donald Lucas has received the following condolences.

So very sorry to hear of this. My children attended Lincoln K-8 Choice with Derek and Austin. Our thoughts are with all of you, and we wish you comfort and peace in the coming days.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Derek. I am so very sorry for your loss. The Bible tells us that soon death will be done away with.(Revelation 21:4) We long for that day as well as the fulfilment of the resurrection spoken of at Acts 24:15.

So very sorry for your loss.

The pain of losing a loved one can be so overwhelmingly sad, especially the loss of one so young , as your was your Derek.

Our heavenly Father promises us that very soon he will 'swallow up death forever, and wipe the tears from all faces' Isaiah 25:8.

What a wonderful future hope that is. You can find much Bible based comfort on jw org

The loss of a child is every parents nightmare.  I have lived that nightmare and am offering a scripture that helped me through out the years.  It is John 5:28,29 where it says " Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all of those in memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."  There is a hope for all those we have lost.

I am deeply sorry for your loss my god bless your family and I'll keep them in my prayers
