Darlene V. Veerkamp

The funeral for Darlene V. Veerkamp will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 21st at St. Pius X Catholic Church of Rochester with The Rev. Msgr. Donald P. Schmitz officiating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20th at the River Park Chapel Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Veerkamp, 78, of Rochester, Minnesota died Tuesday, July 15th, at Rochester Methodist Hospital after a courageous 6 year battle with multiple myeloma.

Darlene was born October 30, 1935 in Claremont, Minnesota to Henry and Louise (Dietz) Jante.  She graduated from Owatonna High School in Owatonna, MN.  On July 13, 1957 she married Cyril G. Veerkamp at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, MN.   The couple lived in Rochester their entire married life.

Darlene worked at Federated Insurance Company in Owatonna following her graduation from high school as well as a car hop at the local A&W.  After marriage, she became a full time mother and homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Susan (Dennis) Stehr of Elko New Market, MN and Nancy Veerkamp of Shoreview, MN, one brother, Lester (Jane) Jante of Medford, MN, and two sisters:  Lucille Rolfe of Rochester, MN and Shirley Nesdahl of San Jose, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy; a daughter, Karen Marie Veerkamp; parents Henry and Louise Jante; a brother, Lawrence Jante; and sisters:  Mildred More and Dorothy Eaton.

Memorials are preferred to cancer research.

I really enjoyed working with Cy and Darlene in buying their townhome.  I am sure they will be greatly missed.  Although I'm not in real estate any longer, I still think of them and the family often.  My condolences to all of you.
