Dana Lea Reed

Dana L. Reed died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 3:15 AM at the Seasons Hospice home near Rochester, MN at the age of 74 due to pancreatic cancer.

Dana Reed was born April 13, 1942 in Mankato, MN to Clarence and Audrey (Lenz) Schultz of Vernon Center, MN.  Dana graduated from Glencoe High School and Minnesota School of Business with a business/finance degree.  She met and married her high school sweetheart James W. Reed on April 29, 1961 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, MN.

Dana and Jim lived in Glencoe until 1987, when they moved to a home on Lake Minnie Belle near Litchfield, MN.  Dana worked in the McLeod County Auditor’s Office for 20 years and then sold real estate with Century 21 in Hutchinson, MN.  When retired from 3M they bought and managed the St. Cloud Campground & RV Park for 7 years.  After selling the campground, they became ‘full timers’ living in their motor home traveling 43 states. Most years they wintered in Florida and summered in Minnesota near Lake Mille Lacs and the past two summers in Wabasha, MN.

Dana and Jim owned a cabin in the Park Rapids, MN area for 17 years enjoying time with family and friends, fishing, water skiing and snowmobiling. Dana enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching the Vikings, Twins play on TV and attending NASCAR races.

Dana is survived by her daughter Shelly (Dale) O’Groske of Byron, MN; grandchildren Reed and Ryan O’Groske of Byron, MN; step mother, Leona Schultz of Winsted, MN; step sisters, Margel (Rodger) Kirchhoff of New Germany, MN and Carol Wolter of Winsted, MN; and her AFS exchange student daughter, Astrid Amaya de Pineda of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, who visited in March 2016.

Dana was proceeded in death by her husband Jim, parents Clarence and Audrey Schultz, brothers Rodney and Ross (Michael) Schultz.

Visitation will be held in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10:00 and memorial service at 11:00 with lunch following.  Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com. Interment will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 6:00 at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe, MN. Memorials can be given to Seasons Hospice or Mayo Clinic Foundation for Pancreatic Research.

Condolences

The family of Dana Lea Reed has received the following condolences.

So sorry to hear of Dana's passing. We enjoyed working for her & her husband at the campground.

Dana played French horn with me and my sister in high school in Glencoe.  She was better about practicing than we were! We always enjoyed hearing about her travels but didn't expect her last journey would come so soon.Sorry for your loss. Pat

Our thoughts are with your family during this difficult time.  Jim and Dana lived a good life and loved the life they lived.  Needless to say, they were always together - whether playing cards at the club house, going to the store, or just staying at home.  They belonged together and are, once again, together.  Hopefully knowing they are together will help you through the next months, years.  You have our most sincere sympathy.  Your parents/grandparents were loved and will be missed by many.

Sorry for your Loss. We knew Dana from Deer Creek Golf & Resort. Your parents were a great couple. They will be missed by all. Words will never replace the way they were loved & respected. We wish we were closer to join & meet the family but our thoughts & prayers are with you. God Bless.

Shelly Dale and Sons,

Thank goodness you put your Mother's obituary in Litchfield,MN or we would not have known she had died.

We are in Granite Falls, MN with Jodi and David Bollman and are leaving back to AZ soon.

It has been great seeing friends and especially our family.  Jodi and David have five grand children closely and are very busy with them.

They are both retired and enjoying the kids and their Harley.

Jeff and Colleen are living in MA and were also home while we were here.  Jeff has a granddaughter and they live close to Jodi too.

Our love, prayers and sympathy to all of you.  Losing your father, mother so close has to be hard.

We will not be able to attend service tomorrow or burial but will you please give me your phone# or email so we can visit a bit.

Our love and remember so many fun times we had together with your Mom and Dad.

We are so sorry for your loss. We are member of your folks, RV group called Classy Cruisers. We also shared having our 50th Wedding Anniversary the same year. You may find a picture later, of 3 couples in our group that celebrated our 50th the same year. Your mother will be missed by many. She was a lovely thoughtful lady. Our hearts go out to you.

Sending our Love  Ron & Sheila Dietrich

I'm very sorry to hear of Dana's passing.  I used to deliver papers to her, and later she always reached out to keep me updated on their travels when she was here in Florida.

My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Steve Jerve

My sincere sympathy for your loss of both your Dad and Mom. My late husband worked with Jim at 3M and we had many happy times visiting with them. In fact, I still have the card Jim gave us the last time we met. They were a wonderful couple and I am sure you will miss them.

Dear Shelly, Dale, Reed, and Ryan,

I am holding all of you in my thoughts and prayers. It is hard to imagine losing another parent/grandparent so soon after the passing of Jim. Dana was a dear person; I know she will be greatly missed.

Blessings,

Carol Reed

Shelly,  I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's death.    I know she was suffering and its a blessing that she and Jim are together.    You and your family have been through a lot these last couple years.   I know it must be a relief to have the suffering over, but I know what it is to lose your Mom  and Dad.   Take care of yourself and take time for your family, let yourself heal, and be patient with yourself.   Its a process.    Know that we will keep you in our hearts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. i was a work camper for Jim and Dana. My prayers are with you at this sad time.

We came to know both Dana and Jim 20 years ago at an RV rally and remained good friends all these years. We visited them several locations in Minnesota and Florida. We last saw them in Homestead FL. at the races. We missed seeing them due to our illnesses the last two.

We will keep you in our prayers and miss both Dana and Jim.
