Dale S. Seltun

Dale Sherman Seltun, age 74 of Rochester, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, from cardiac complications.

Dale was born on December 2, 1939 in Frost, Minnesota to Severt and Stella Seltun. He was baptized on January 28, 1940 at Bricelyn Lutheran Church. He was confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church and was a 1957 graduate of Bricelyn High School. Dale and his brother Jerry bought a corn shelling business and worked for three years until it was suggested by an older barber in Bricelyn, MN to attend Barber School. He completed his six-month  training and later started his own barber shop, Total Image, located  in the subway of the Kahler Hotel.  He successfully owned and operated his barbering business for over 50 years. Dale married Joyce Brech of Albert Lea in 1960. The couple had three sons, Lonnie, Leslie and Lance. Dale was also previously married to Linda Sheffler and Mary Seltun respectively.

Dale enjoyed golf and was proud of getting a hole-in-one.  He also loved fishing, hunting, playing cards (Lady Luck was a good friend) and working on his farm. He especially enjoyed taking his fully restored 1950 Mercury out on drives and to many car shows. Dale enjoyed ancestry  research and successfully located relatives in Laerdal, Norway and visited them several times, as well as hosting them locally.

The activity he enjoyed most was spending any time with his family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Les (JoAnn) Seltun of Mason City and Lance (Colette) of Rochester; a sister Alpha Kingstrom of Bricelyn, MN;  stepchildren Katie (Andy) McCaleb and Kelsey (fiancé Mike Nelson) Kent; grandchildren Nicholas (Lynda), Joseph (Hillary), Leah (TJ Clark), Zachary, Seth and Rilee Seltun; Kaelyn, Karly and Aubrey McCaleb; great-grandchildren Sean, Judah, Eden, Calvary (born September 3, 2014) Seltun, Benjamin and Brianna Sabot, Ellie Clark, and Brock Nelson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother; stepfather Raymond Erikson; two brothers Jerry and Mark; his sister Sharon; and his son Lonnie who died August 25th, 1986.

Visitation for Dale will be Friday, September 5th, 2014, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Macken Funeral Chapel at 1119 11 ½ th Street SE, Rochester, MN. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Shelley Cunningham officiating.   Burial will be in the Bricelyn, MN Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dale Seltun Memorial Fund.
