Cynthia (Cindy) Landwehr, age 80, passed away July 31st at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Cynthia Bernadette Navratil was born in Silver Lake, MN on July 30, 1934 to John and Mary (Schultz) Navratil.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake.   Cindy grew up with three sisters and seven brothers. She attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Silver Lake High School.  Upon graduation she worked at Minneapolis Moline, St. John’s Abbey/University and the College of St. Benedict.

It was at a dance in Silver Lake that Cindy met and married her husband, Francis Landwehr of Rockville, MN in 1958. The highlight of their lives was the adoption of two children, Julie Ann (Tim) Archbold and Michael Francis Landwehr.  Cindy worked part time in various positions in Rochester while raising their children.  The family enjoyed many years of camping, boating and traveling throughout the United States and Canada.  She and her husband visited several countries in Europe.   Most memorable were their trips to Rome where they met Pope John Paul II and the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.

Cindy finished her career as Faculty Secretary at Winona State University/Rochester retiring in 1994.   Cindy was an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Refugee Resettlement and Assisi Heights.  She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and is a past President  of the St. John’s Winona Council of Catholic Women where she received the Bishop’s Medal.  She was a member of Teams of Our Lady, Rochester Serra Club, St. Raphael’s Guild and St. Mary’s Volunteers.  She enjoyed music, especially piano playing, and attending Rochester Symphony concerts. She also belonged to several choral groups over the years.  She also enjoyed gardening, especially her roses, and bird-watching

She was proud of all her grandchildren – Matthew, Nicholas, Joseph, Patrick and John Archbold and Anthony and Christopher Landwehr.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis Landwehr in 1992, her parents, sisters Helen (Charles) Koch, Doris (Lee) Van Nurden, Theresa (Clifford) Clasen, brothers Richard (Rosemary), Maynard (Pat), Thomas, John, Robert, Virgil and Joseph.

To the Landwehr Family,

I just wanted to send a note of sympathy to you all.  I remember Cynthia when I was a classmate of Michael's at LHS.  I know she will be sorely missed but she was a great presence.  Blessings to you always.
