Cecil Keith Dietz

St. Charles — Cecil Keith Dietz

Cecil Keith Dietz, 89, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Home in St. Charles.

Cecil was born and raised, on his father’s farm, in Cogswell, ND. He married Marjorie (Schoville) in 1947 and bought his Uncle Sid Savey’s farm. In 1956 he sold the farm and moved to Beloit, WI, where the couple lived for 10 years. In 1968, he bought a 200 acre dairy farm in Finlayson, MN.  Two of his sons, Dwight and Lyle continued to farm while Cecil went to work at Askov Feed Store. Cecil and Marjorie moved to Mesa, AZ, in 1989, where he worked at the airport for 2 years.  He also bagged groceries for Albertson’s Supermarket. He retired from Albertson’s in 2000 and moved to Madison, WI.  He bagged groceries at the local Cub Foods until they moved to Eyota, MN in 2006, to be closer to family.

Cecil enjoyed woodworking.  They did not live in a home that he did not add on to or improve. He loved making items for his grand and great grandchildren.

He leaves his wife of almost 67 years, Marjorie Dietz; his 4 sons, Gene (Denise) Dietz, Cincinnati, OH, Lyle (Colleen) Dietz, Sibley, IA,  Dwight (Sandy) Dietz, Oshkosh, WI, Paul (Jenny) Dietz, Harmony, MN, 2 daughters, Lyla Redetzke, Watertown, SD, Debbie (Ken) Cochrum, Talladega, AL,  26 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Eleanor (Bacon) Dietz, and 4 siblings, Ralph Dietz, Floyd Dietz, Leo Dietz, and Edna (Dietz) Nomeland.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Sargent County Cemetery in Cogswell, North Dakota at a later date.

Condolences

The family of Cecil Keith Dietz has received the following condolences.

Dear Aunt Marge and all the family,

Oh, how we loved Uncle Cecil!  There was not another quite like him.  No matter how busy, he always had time to give a smile, or a little tease.  We were so sorry not to come see you all.  I still remember the comfort I felt at Lyle's coming to Dad's funeral.  I am still recovering from the heart attack and cancer surgery, but all is going well, and I would have been there if I could.

Heaven is richer, and makes us all long for it a little more to know Uncle Cecil and his family are having a wonderful reunion.

Love, Paul and Janice Sisson

Cecil was a wonderful ,kind, caring man ...  He meant the world to Kay !!!   Always there to greet her and push her wheelchair each and every morning. taking the time to visit with her.    She so enjoyed those treasured moments together.  Going to Arbor Gardens was never the same for Kay once her dear friend Cecil left.

Very few people have had the kind, loving impact on Kay's life that Cecil did ....  We THANK the Good Lord for having let Cecil be a part of Kay's life......

Heaven has received a fantastic Angel ... We, especially Kay were BLESSED to have known him.

Love,  Kay and Wendy Loftus

Thank you for your Christian witness to me and our family when we lived in Beloit. May God go with you and provide

His love and comfort for your family at this time. May we all meet someday again in Heaven.

Cecil was one of the most admired men of my childhood.  The memories of the Cogswell church family linger sweetly as time goes by and the great values of the past rise to the surface.  My parents and three brothers, at the time, were welcomed in to Cecil and Marge's farm home at any time with plenty of food to feed us all when we lived just down the road in Straubville, N. Dak..  They joined the rest of their family to welcome us into the church and to see that we could be at VBS each year. Love was all we ever knew from them, and Cecil was that great man who would take time out for all us boys with that wonderful smile on his face. He loved the Lord and showed it with his generosity and concern.

One never knows the impact a solitary man can have on the folks around him until he stops to add it all up.  Cecil let God live in him with all he did or said to his community.  Would that we all could be more like him.  His legacy lives on.

God has blessed you, Marge and family, and may he give you comfort through his providence and loving care.

I remember when uncle Cecil flew out to OR many years ago. I drove him to Cannon Beach to see the ocean. He was so busy taking pictures of the ocean that he didn't see the wave coming up and over his shoes and the bottom of his trousers.  He said, "That's ok. I get to take some of the ocean back home with me." We laughed and he continued taking pictures. I love that memory of him. Love and prayers to aunt Marg and family.

Thoughts going out to the family who I know are experiencing a great loss right now and at the same time rejoicing that he is finally with his Lord. Marge and Cecil were my parents for 18 years and always left great example in everything they did. My best memories of dad were that of his always wanting to go help and build things for his kids. We asked him to build a little dog house one time and wow did he! He made it look like a real little house with special shingles and light blue trim and it was the cutest dog house I had ever seen! He didn't do it because he cared so much about my dog, but because he put his whole heart and soul into everything he did for his boys. If he was needed for anything...he was there. I will always be thankful for getting to be a part of his family and for seeing a godly father in action. He will be missed I know....but I also know that he was excited and ready to be in heaven and I know there are many people there welcoming him home! God Bless your family during this time.

Although years and circumstance have kept us apart in recent years, I always loved visiting with Aunt Marge and Uncle Cecil when I was growing up.  I'm so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man, but I know that he will be singing with the choir in heaven and watching over his family as he always tried to do here on earth.  Blessings and love to all of the family.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We are thinking of you during this difficult time and sending lots of prayers your way!!
