Art Martinson Jr.

Arthur Martinson Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, Minnesota. He was surrounded by many loving family members and friends.

Art was born on December 19, 1935 in Winona, Minnesota to Arthur and LaVina (Moen) Martinson. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1953. On May 24, 1980 he married the love of his life, Patty Stevens. Her two sons, Troy and Jeff, became Art’s fourth and fifth sons.

Art worked for IBM for more than 30 years, retiring at age 51, when he and Patty spent the next 15 years enjoying winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. They enjoyed flea markets, and formed many special friendships there. As a youth he was a member of the Dragons Car Club, he loved photography, woodworking and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and many friends. Art was a meticulous person who had a place for everything. He and his wife Patty played Kismet every morning for 37 years, and he kept track of every game. Patty would like to thank Art’s primary care provider Dr. Andrew Vaughan for always being there for both Art and Patty. We also want to thank the wonderful caregivers that lovingly cared for Art while he was at Lake Winona Manor.

Survivors include his wife Patty, five sons; Jeff (Kathy) Martinson of Rochester, Terry (Zee) Martinson of Kellogg and David (Angela) of Hagar City, WI, Troy (Libby) Amaris of Minneapolis and Jeff Amaris of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; Aaron, Abby, Ashley, Josh, Amanda, Heather and Brittany Martinson, and Jennifer, Jessica, Brendan, Maggie and Anna Amaris, and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Arlys Drazkowski of Winona, MN, brother Arlen Martinson of Coon Valley, WI, sister Karen (Allen) Burt of Minnesota City, MN and sister-in-law Eva Martinson. He is preceded in death by both parents, brothers Jerry and Roger Martinson and brother-in-law Bill Drazkowski.

The funeral for Art will be 11:00am on Friday, July 28th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St. SE in Rochester. Art’s cousin Pastor Roland Burt will officiate his funeral. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 27th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Patty,

We're so sorry for your loss.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Patty, Arley and Family, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

We extend our deepest sympathies in the loss of this much-beloved gentlemen.  He is resting in peace

I have nothing but wonderful memories of Art but one in particular I would like his family to know.  When I was a young lad and working part time at IBM, Art was my mentor and I was amazed at how great he was with teaching me my job.  I thought it was maybe because he was the father in law to my sister (silly me). Of course he is being nice to me.   Not the case at all.  Turns out the more I got to know him,  Art was sweet and patient to everyone and I cant say enough good things about how well Art was to not only me, but my whole family.  He was always so good to us and I am so glad to have known him.

Thank you Art for being a wonderful father, husband, mentor, Grandpa, and especially my friend.  May you rest in peace and may the mere mention of your name bring a smile and kind memories to all who had the pleasure of knowing you.

So sorry for your loss.

Patty,

My deepest sympathies to you!! Art was a wonderful man!  I'll never forget the great memories from Oak Terrace when we lived across from eachother!  Especially when Krysta would go to help Art take leaves and branches to the woods or the wood chuck from our neighbors and the expression on his face when she told him wood chucks can kill!!

i still have the wonderful wood items he made for me!

You both have held a very special place in my heart!

Love you Kim

Dearest Patty, Jeff and family,

When Kathy married Jeff, the Martinson's got a package deal!  Not only a great daughter-in-law ? but also the whole Clark family!

We have been blessed by our Christmas gatherings, the shared laughter and our love for you and Art.

Always here for you, Patty, and missing Art deeply!!!

Peter and Ginny ??

Junior, you will be missed so very much! I know you had a warm welcome in Heaven with Grandma, Grandpa, Roger, Bill and my Dad. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories you have left with me--especially from our last visit when Kathy and I came to Rochester to visit you and Patty. So many good laughs!  Love you for always!

Our friend Art was a wonderful person, always so kind and nice to everyone.  We will miss him so.  Our sympathies to our dear friend Patty and the entire family.
