Arlene E. Gillespie

Arlene Gillespie, 83, passed away at her home, Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Arlene was born in Rochester on March 27, 1931, to Clarence and Elizabeth Hoffman.

On August 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ronald Gillespie.

As a young woman, Arlene worked as a medical secretary at Mayo Clinic.  In 1961, she and Ron, along with Red and Fran Cochran started Cochran & Gillespie Sporting Goods.  A few years later, Ron and Arlene became the sole owners and the business became Gillespie Sporting Goods.

Arlene was a champion bowler and golfer, winning numerous tournaments and events.  She enjoyed fishing and tennis, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Bjella (Karmon) of Alpena, MI; Nancy Domaille (Mike) of Big Sky, MT; Patty Grabowski (Joe) of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Heather, Erik, Melissa, Ben and Katie; and great-granddaughter, Kiersten. She is also survived by a brother, Loren Hoffman (Marilyn) of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, Aug. 23, at Zumbro Lutheran Church with the Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials to Zumbro Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Department of Development.
