Alice Gertrude Marzolf

Alice Gertrude Marzolf, age 96, of Rochester, MN. passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2014.

Alice Gertrude was born on May 15, 1918 to Edward and Martha (Evers) Behring in Wykoff, MN. Alice was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, MN. She attended Wykoff High School and graduated in 1936. On November 9, 1940, Alice… was united in marriage to Erwin Frederick Raabe at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, MN. They had 2 children, Kay Cheryl Raabe (Saterdalen) and Rodney Dean Raabe. Erwin died serving his country in WWII on March 9, 1945 in Germany. On July 7, 1950, she married Reuben Marzolf in Stewartville, MN, made their home in Rochester and had 2 children Ricci Lynn and Randy Lee.

Alice attended Beautician school in Minneapolis and worked as a beauty operator and as a store clerk at Dayton’s in Rochester. She was actively involved at Redeemer Lutheran Church and participated in various groups including Sara Circle, Quilters, LWML, RLCW and Ladies Circle. She was an extremely joyful person and always had a smile on her face. She especially liked spending time with friends and family and kept numerous diaries and scrapbooks of daily events and activities. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking – family favorite was cherry cheesecake and cinnamon rolls, playing 500, traveling and spending time at their cabin on the Mississippi River.

Alice is survived by her husband of 64 years, Reuben of Rochester; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kay (David) Saterdalen of Wabasha; Pamela Saterdalen and John (Alaina) Saterdalen; Rodney (Diane) Raabe of Swisher, IA., Jay (Jessica) Raabe of Decorah, IA; Atticus and Theodore; Kristen (Brad) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA; Marlee, Addisen and Mckenna; Lindsey (Michael) Spears of Junction City, KS; Jaiden and Jenna; Ricci (Laurie) Marzolf of New Hampton, IA.; Robert and Katelynn Marzolf; Randy Marzolf of Kenosha, WI.; Amanda and Haley Marzolf; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Erwin Raabe and grandson Scott Saterdalen.

In 2005, Alice suffered a fall resulting in a serious brain injury and by Gods grace miraculously survived. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, Home Instead, Madonna Meadows, Meadow Lakes Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice, all in Rochester for the wonderful attention and care given to Alice in the last 9 years.

Funeral services will be held on Friday Oct. 24 at 11:00AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN officiated by Rev. James Heining. Visitation will be 1 hour before the funeral service at the church.  Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, MN following the service.
