Judy Lynn Sackett

The memorial service for Judy Lynn Sackett will be Wednesday, May 26 at 2:00pm at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester, MN with Rev. Luther Matheson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Judy Sackett, 63, of Rochester, died Sunday (May 23, 2010) at her home from a lengthy illness.

She was born Judy Lynn Raish on September 25, 1946 in Baltimore Maryland.  On September 23, 1967 she married Dave W. Sackett in San Antonio Texas.  Mr. Sackett is retired from United Parcel Service (UPS).  Following their marriage, the couple resided in Germany for 2 years, then moved to Byron in 1971, where they lived until 1986, when they moved out to their present home in the country.

Judy was a homemaker.  She enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and pets.  She loved living the country.

She is survived by her husband Dave, one daughter; Kelly (Bryan) Shave of Burnsville, MN, 2 sons; Nathan Sackett of Dallas TX and Nolan Sackett of Medord, MN.

Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research or the Dodge County Humane Society.

Bernard J. “Bernie” Ring

The funeral Mass for Bernard J. “Bernie” Ring will be Wednesday, May 26 at 11:00 AM at the St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rochester, MN with Father Paul Nelson and Father Charlie Collins celebrating the Mass. A graveside  service is scheduled for 11:00AM Thursday, May 27, at Calvary Cemetery.

Bernard Joseph Ring, 60, of Rochester, MN died Friday (May 21, 2010) at Golden East Living Center in Rochester.

He was born February 5, 1950, in Northwood, ND. He graduated from Northwood High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 1971. On August 5, 1972 he married Mary Ann Votava at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grafton, ND. His wife survives.

Bernard received his Certified Public Accounting license and had worked for various CPA firms in Rochester until April, 2009.  He was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and the  Minnesota Society of CPA’s. He was also a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and had been active in the Rochester Rotary Club.

He was a proud member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) military program in college and served in the Military Police Reserve Unit in Rochester.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ring, Rochester; and three sons James Alan Ring, Blaine, MN; Paul Francis Ring, Rochester; and Michael Parker Ring, Rochester, MN; one granddaughter, Kayla Ring, Blaine, MN.

His brother Donald R. Ring of Villard, MN also survives.  Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.

John F. Stellmaker

The funeral for John F. Stellmaker will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (May 24) at Marion Church of Christ in Marion, with the Pastor Vern Harris officiating.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Mr. Stellmaker, 91, of Shoreview, Minn., formerly of Rochester, died Tuesday (May 18, 2010) at his residence.

John was born December 29, 1918 in St. Charles, MN.  On October 7, 1940 he married Lois L. Harrison at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  The couple lived in Rochester until 1987, when they moved to Mesa, Ariz.  In 1998 they moved to Spring Lake Park.  In 2003, John moved to Shoreview, Minn. after the passing of his wife.

John worked as a mechanic for Harold’s Auto Electric.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon Bendelow of Shoreview, Minn., and Barbara (Gary) Ellingson of LaBolt, SD., a son, Robert of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  John was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and one granddaughter.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Marjorie L. McAllister

On Friday May 14, 2010, Marjorie L. McAllister passed away from emphysema at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Marjorie was born on July 25, 1935 to Roy and Ethel Murphy in Rochester, Minnesota. She married Richard McAllister November 1, 1962 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester. Richard died May 9, 1983. She was a lifelong resident of the Rochester area, and worked for the Rochester School District, and Mr. McAllister was a semi-truck owner and operator. Marjorie enjoyed garage sales, and playing bingo. Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Terry (Wesley) Wilcox and Valene McAllister (Lance Wynveen), both of Rochester, and one son Bruce (Laury) McAllister of Eyota, MN. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Travis, Cole, and Joshua Wilcox, Kimberly, Bridget, and Bruce Jr. McAllister, and Samuel Wynheen.  She has three great grandchildren, Ashelyn Wilcox, Alex Johnsrud, and Xavier Wilcox.  A sister JoAnn Ness of Bethel, MN., and a brother Donnie (Sharon) Murphy of Grant, New Mexico  also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.  A funeral service will be at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 18 at Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Filbeck officiating.   Friends may call Monday May 17, 2010, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.  Burial will be in Marion Cemetery, in Marion Minnesota.

Leon Alvin Vagt

A funeral service for Leon Alvin Vagt will be at 11:00am Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Macken Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Buller officiating.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00p.m. Monday at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Vagt, 81, of Rochester, MN died Thursday, May 13, 2010 of natural causes at his residence.  Leon was born on April 15, 1929 in Grand Meadow, MN to Anne and Alfred Vagt.  He attended Stewartville High School where he participated in track, baseball and the swim team.  Leon married Violet L. Long on March 19, 1948 in Rochester, MN.  Leon worked for Witte Transport, Dornacks Plumming and Heating until retirement in 1991.

Leon enjoyed watching sports, reading, fishing and gardening.  He liked spending time with friends and family around the fire pit and was often referred to as ‘Grandpa’ by the many neighborhood children.

He is survived by his children; Elena Henderson of Rochester, MN, Toni (Jim) Maher of Apex, NC, LeRae (Willie) Schneider of Rochester, MN, Rick (Becky) Vagt of Rochester, MN and Alan Vagt of Rochester, MN; brother, James (Ronna) Vagt of Oronoco, MN, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leon is preceded in death his parents, sister, Shirley Buske, son-inlaw and Rick Henderson.

The family requests no memorials, but in remembrance of Leon, please plant a tree, shrub or flowers, go fishing or spend time with your family.

Arend Brinks

Arend Brinks, 76 of Rochester died Thursday evening (May 13, 2010) following a short illness at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Arend was born August 22, 1933 in Deventer, the Netherlands.  On May 2, 1957 he married Gertie Molenaar in the Netherlands. In 1957 they came to the United States and resided in Rochester, MN. Gertie passed away August 8, 1992.  Arend later married Helen Miner-Brinks on April 26, 1997 in Rochester, MN.

Arend had a 40 year career with Rochester Orthopedic Appliances and was manager for 10 of those years.  Helen was a Registered Nurse retiring in 2005.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Bert (Mary) Brinks of North Mankato, MN and Jerry (Jo) Brinks of Holmen, WI.  Two Step-Daughters; Ann (Gerry) Smith of Rockford, IL and Laura (Roger) Repetto of Concord, CA.  Five grandchildren; Jason, Deanna, Andy, Sam, and Ben Brinks.  Four Step-Grandchildren; Chloe and Philip Smith, Olivia and Julian Repetto.  One Brother In-law; Gerrit (Jean) Molenaar, Two sisters In-law; Johanna (Marty) Kling and Heidi Brinks and his nieces and nephews.

Arend was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Arend had been active in the Boy Scouts for many years and he was one of the first coaches in the Rochester Youth Soccer Association.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and musical performances.

The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday (May 17) at Evangel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Utecht officiating.  There will be a private family burial at a later date.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday (May 16) at Macken Funeral Home and an hour before the service on Monday at the church.

Justin Robert Lawrence Bunke

Funeral services for Justin Robert Lawrence Bunke will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastors Brian Kom and Matthew Luetke officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery Rochester. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, May 15, 2010 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Ascension Lutheran Church and one hour prior to funeral services. Justin Robert Lawrence Bunke, age 21, died peacefully in his sleep, and was called home to heaven on May 12, 2010. Justin was born on August 10, 1988 in Rochester, MN. He attended Resurrection Lutheran School, and graduated with honors from Century High School in 2007. He is survived by his parents, Jay and JoAnn Bunke; a sister, Amie and her fiancé Erik Benson all of Rochester; paternal grandparents, Robert and Bettie Lou Bunke of Rushford; maternal grandmother, Clarice Westby of Rushford; aunts and uncles, Dennis (Connie) Westby of Rochester, Ruth (Dennis) Peterson of Rushford, Terry (Marilynn) Westby of Winona, Jeffrey (Patty) Bunke of Rushford, Jaclyn (Michael) Woll of Eden Prairie, Jim (Dolly) Bunke of Edina, and many loving cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Lawrence Westby.  Justin’s passion was music, and he spent much of his life immersed in it. He sought out and loved the simple and honest things in life. Justin had a very kind heart and gentle spirit, and enjoyed a deep personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. Catherine “Cat” Leona Leesman Borell

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, Catherine Leona Leesman Borell passed away from breast cancer at her home surrounded by family.   Catherine’s enthusiasm for life inspired those around her and she was endeared by all who knew her.

Catherine was born on June 28, 1973 in Athens, GA and lived her early years in Madison, WI, Plainsboro, NJ and Naperville, IL.  She graduated from Winona State University in 1996 and has resided in Rochester for the past 10 years.  Catherine was a Sales Manager for the DoubleTree Hotel in Rochester.  On March 7, 2009, she married Jeremy James Borell in Walker, MN.

Catherine is survived by her husband Jeremy; one son, Nathan Drew Leesman-Wiesner of Rochester; her parents, Anne Tolan of Pine Island, MN and Glen David Leesman of Del Mar, CA; and one sister Jeannie Marie Leesman of Santa Fe, NM.  She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Anne and Robert John Tolan and her paternal grandmother, Leona Madge Leesman.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Nathan Leesman-Wiesner trust fund or to sponsor Catherine’s team, The Catwalking Solesisters, in the annual 3-Day for the Cure Susan G. Komen walk.

The funeral Mass for Catherine will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Church of the Resurrection in Rochester, with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating.  Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Church of the Resurrection and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Selma L. “Sally” Dickey

The funeral Mass for Selma L. “Sally” Dickey will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating.   Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Dickey, 93 of Rochester, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Samaritan Bethany Heights from natural causes.

Selma was born on April 21, 1917 in Noonan North Dakota to Martin and Ingborg (Evje) Benson. On September 29, 1951, she married Richard C. Dickey in Minneapolis.  The couple resided in Bloomington until 1984 when they moved to Rochester.  Mrs. Dickey was a commercial artist for Nash-Finch in Minneapolis.

Mrs. Dickey is survived by three nephews; Carl (Stephanie) Benson of Byron, Norman (Maggie) Benson of Rochester and Marvin (Chris) Benson of Chatfield.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters.

She was a member of the Rochester Senior Citizen’s Center.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday at the church.

Marian B. Amman

The funeral Mass for Marian B. Amman will be at 10:00AM on Saturday May 8, 2010 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Simpson, MN with Rev. Matthew J. Fasnacht and Rev. Timothy Hall co-officiating.  Burial will be at St. Joachim’s Cemetery in Plainview.

Mrs. Amman, 94, of Stewartville died May 3, 2010 at St. Marys Hospital.  She was born July 25, 1915 in Sioux Falls, SD to John Hall and Bertina (Larson) Hall.    On May 20, 1936 she married Harold L. Amman at St. Joachim’s church in Plainview.  The couple farmed in the Plainview area until moving to Rochester in 1954.  Mr. Amman passed away July 27, 1992.  During her working years Marian was a cytologist at the Mayo Clinic.  She enjoyed playing cards; spending time with her family and traveling.  Marian currently resided with her niece Carol and Ken Kruger in Stewartville.

She is survived by her son John R. (Jeanne) Amman of St. Augustine, FL; one granddaughter Diane (Robert) Pickard of Jacksonville, Florida and great grandchildren Micah Amman, Bethany Amman, Amber McKinnon and Daniel Pickard.  She is also survived by a multiple number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, one grandson, and one daughter-in-law.

Friends may call from 4pm to 7pm Friday at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  A prayer service will be held at 7pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
